Under the moon catwoman tale5/29/2023 ![]() The book doesn't want you to feel bad for her, but instead wants you to see how she makes it through to the other side. Myracle keeps the focus though on Selina throughout all of it and not on the obstacles themselves. That said, this book isn't afraid to gut-punch you, and it more than succeeds on several occasions. ![]() There's a tragic honesty to it that reminds you there are kids out there where this is no mere story, but a present fact of life, but Myracle does inject the story with humor at the right times to keep things from becoming too dour. Myracle touches on some sensitive topics here like suicide and abuse, but it never feels cheap or played simply for shock. Under the Moon really tells the story of Selina Kyle, a young girl who has weathered far too many storms for someone so young. As you might surmise, Under the Moon is the story of Catwoman, but that's probably simplifying it a bit too much. ![]() DC Ink is a new line of Young Adult-focused graphic novels based around one central character at a time. ![]()

His work is nearly satire, because it exposes the racist genre expectations of his agent. Instead, he writes "My Pafology," a diagnosis of all the societal expectations that shape the depiction of black people in popular art. His agent encourages him to stop writing genius stories about Greek mythology and to start writing about "black" life and the difficulties of "black life," like issues in the street or in the neighborhood. He is educated, but more importantly, he understands the connection between mythology and truth. The novelist suggests that this character is truly an inspired genius. Instead of treating Monk's artwork as true human art, it is often labeled "black" art, and immediately the audience changes from universal to particular. This prejudice is more subtle and more insidious. The problem is shown to be one of prejudice, but not in the bitter racist kind that readers might be used to discussing. It is a revelation of racial dynamics that underpin daily life for the black community, and for communities at large.
